Psychology Opportunities

Children’s National Health System offers comprehensive internship and externship programs in Child Life Services, neuropsychology, and psychology. Our internship and externship programs are intensive, clinically based programs that offer students hands on experience delivering the highest quality of care designed with kids in mind.

Neuropsychology Externship

This is an advanced assessment externship in the Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology at Children’s National. The program is under the direction of Gerry Gioia, Ph.D., and includes 12 faculty neuropsychologists, four pediatric psychologists, six postdoctoral fellows, as well as multiple predoctoral interns and externs.

Clinical Externships in Autism

Graduate students in clinical psychology or school psychology may apply for unpaid externship training with the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Children’s National.

Psychology Externship Program

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers practicum level training experiences in child clinical and pediatric psychology to students enrolled in doctoral programs in psychology.

Eating Disorders Clinic Psychology Externship

Our extern in Adolescent Medicine will work as a team member in our Eating Disorders Clinic at our Friendship Heights Outpatient Center. Working with the department's clinical psychologist, the extern will conduct diagnostic evaluations and take part in individual psychotherapy and some parent counseling.

Psychology Internship Program

The internship is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association, initially earning accreditation in 1970.
