Andrea Hahn, M.D., Laboratory
About Our Lab
The Hahn Lab studies the impact of antibiotics on microbial diversity within the airway microbiome of children with cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a life-limiting disease that affects more than 30,000 people in the United States.
People with this disease suffer from recurrent and chronic lung infections that require treatment with antibiotics. These antibiotics are life-saving, but how they affect all of the bacteria within the airways remains unclear. The Hahn Lab seeks to understand how antibiotic pharmacokinetics and antibiotic resistance affect the balance of bacteria within the airways, and how information about the airway microbiome could be used to improve antibiotic prescribing.
