Population health and transition to value

Presented by
Veronica Gunn, MD, MPH, FAAP
Vice President, Population Health Management & Payment Innovation
The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

Commercial and government payers are increasingly focused on accountability for comprehensive outcomes and cost improvements across a population (value). As part of this accountability, some pediatric healthcare systems are seeing a shift toward value-based payment models and a corresponding shift away from fee-for-service models.

Children’s health systems have the opportunity to proactively manage this transition – by developing and implementing new models of delivery and payment – to maintain and grow a competitive standing in the market while improving outcomes for children and their families. This presentation will explore one pediatric system’s journey into population management and key lessons learned.

Attendees of this session will be able to:

  1. Understand one system’s journey toward population health, including the rationale and methodological approach
  2. Understand market forces influencing move to value
  3. Explore lessons learned by a similar pediatric health system
