Integrating research and improvement science: Benefits for patient outcomes

Evaline Alessandrini, senior vice president and chief medical officer at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, discusses integrating research and improvement for improved patient outcomes at this Grand Rounds session.

Health care is becoming increasingly complex and obtaining the best clinical and patient reported outcomes for the people we serve relies on a combination of generating evidence of best practices and then reliably implementing those practices into healthcare delivery. Integrating research and improvement science has demonstrated success in improving patient outcomes, particularly when focused on the benefits of standardized care, understanding context, applying theory and capitalizing on experimental design.
