Washington, DC – Kathleen E. Chavanu Gorman has been named Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Patient Care Services for Children’s National Medical Center, effective early this fall.

“Kathy is no stranger to the Children’s National family. We’re thrilled that she’s coming back, and know that she will continue our great work underway as we continue to advance our operational strategy and provide innovative patient care,” said Kurt D. Newman, MD, President and CEO.

Ms. Gorman rejoins Children’s National from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where she served as Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Practice at the University School of Nursing. Prior to her tenure at CHOP, Ms. Gorman was at Children’s National as the Vice President of Quality and Support Services until 2009. During that time, she also led the Quality Program, Clinical Resource Management Program, Family Service Department, and played a critical role in the process of achieving Magnet® status in March 2010. Ms. Gorman received both a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Nursing, and is a 2011 Johnson & Johnson Wharton Nurse Executive Fellow.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Children’s National under Kurt Newman’s leadership,” said Ms. Gorman. “These are exciting times and I’m pleased to be joining a team with big vision for elevating pediatrics in the national health care arena. Children’s has some of the finest nurses I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I am also inspired by the clinical and support teams across the entire organization who are so intensely dedicated to caring for children.”

Ms. Gorman will be responsible for leading the core functions that keep a complex academic medical center operating smoothly and ensuring an optimal patient-family experience.
