Coronavirus Update:What patients and families need to know
A Message from Child Neurology Program Leadership
Welcome to Children’s National Hospital Child Neurology Fellowship!
Here at Children’s National we are very proud to be ranked as one of the top child neurology programs in the country, and we believe this is because of the outstanding faculty and fellows we recruit to our program. Children’s National is unique in that we are located in our nation’s capital, one of the most diverse cities in this country, which attracts patients and staff from all around the world. By choosing to train at Children’s National, you will be engaged in the most up-to-date aspects of clinical care, research and advocacy.
We believe the strength of our program lies in the diversity that surrounds us, from diverse cultures, patients and diseases, to our faculty and fellows that are from around the globe. Our division is one of the oldest child neurology programs in the country, and our hospital was one of the first free standing children’s hospitals as well, started in 1870 and serving the residents of Washington D.C. and the world for 150 years this year!
As the program director of the child neurology fellowship for the past 10 years, I firmly believe that residents and fellows learn best through active engagement in their learning. This spans from how family-centered multidisciplinary rounds are conducted, to the organization of our four inpatient neuro-hospitalist teams, how fellows take call, our outpatient and continuity clinic opportunities, our mentorship and professional advisor program, and day-to-day decisions about curriculum and learner needs. Our program is built upon the idea that teams and organizations are best run by the people that work within them, not from the helm of an administrator’s’ desk. Fellows are actively engaged in every change we have made as a program, which adapts on a regular basis to the needs of our patients and our fellows. My job as program director is to provide the resources necessary to achieve your goals, support you in your educational and professional needs and provide you with leadership and guidance to obtain your career goals. As a fellow, our faculty considers you our colleagues, and we work alongside you to develop your interests and careers, learning from one another on a daily basis as part of a unified team.
I strongly believe that Children’s National Child Neurology Program is the best training program in the country, not because of my leadership, but because of the fellows, faculty, staff and patients that are here learning from each other every day. I encourage you to read through our website and learn more about the opportunities that exist here at Children’s National and in the Washington, D.C., area and hope you consider choosing us for your child neurology education and training.
