Nurse Kristen's Story
It’s no secret that it takes a special person to care for sick kids. Kristen Whewell, BSN, RN, CPN gives her all to care for our brave young patients. Along the way, she gets to see your generosity at work. She says she feels lucky to witness such amazing moments of hope and healing.
One special moment stands out in her mind…
Nurse Kristen had been caring for a patient for several weeks. The little girl, who was very sick, was craving sunshine. Nurse Kristen helped wheel her outside to our Healing Garden. Then, she watched the girl’s face light up. A huge smile spread across the child’s face.
“That visible spark of joy reminded me why I love my work,” Nurse Kristen says.
For Nurse Kristen, helping young patients is personal. After losing a high school friend to leukemia, Kristen’s eyes were opened to the world of medicine, and pediatric nursing in particular. She knew then that she wanted to help brave patients fight for their lives.
Today, she does just that. So do you. Your generosity fuels the research and innovation that lead to new treatments and cures for seriously ill children.
This January, National Blood Donor Month, we think of all the people who give so selflessly to help our patients.
It’s true that it takes a special person to care for sick kids. Someone like Nurse Kristen – and YOU. Thank you for making a life-saving difference.
