Taylor's Story
One year ago, the pandemic derailed this medical student’s plans to train in the clinic. See how Taylor responded by helping kids and families, and how you made it possible.
Three days a week, Taylor volunteered at our drive-up testing site — the first of its kind in the region. The site, powered by generous supporters like you, provided a convenient and safe option for pediatricians to identify children who needed quarantine and care. It also limited the number of families who had to visit local emergency departments for COVID-19 testing.
Taylor and other volunteers helped with logistics, completed paperwork and answered families’ questions. Volunteers also supported the clinical groups performing swabs and the lab techs processing specimens.
“I worked alongside an outpouring of nurses, physician assistants, techs, pathologists and non-clinical people from the hospital who showed up to help,” Taylor says. “Children’s National is clearly more than a job to them. They go out of their way to take care of the community every day, but are working even harder during this pandemic.
“As a student, volunteering at the testing site taught me the importance of working with generous and creative people,” Taylor says. “At Children’s National, teamwork and camaraderie is everywhere.”
