A Worried Mother's Story

Shannon has three children with special needs. Sometimes, making the trip to the hospital is impossible. But thanks to you, her kids can still get the care they need …
Rueben's Story of Strength
With support from friends like you, we're able to help patients and their caregivers through our telemedicine program.

Telemedicine provides remote access to our specialists without ever leaving the comfort and safety of home. Shannon can easily consult with Dr. Marc DiFazio via video conference on her computer about test results, Rueben's behavior and adjustments to his medications.

The program also gives Shannon hours back that would otherwise have been spent driving and navigating crowded elevators, hallways and waiting rooms with three special-needs children. This is so important, as it enables her younger children to spend less time around other potentially sick children. It also limits Rueben's exposure to situations and places that he finds overwhelming.

"Children's National has helped my kids in a mighty way," she says.

When a health crisis changes life as we know it, your generosity is critical. Our telemedicine program ensures that kids like Rueben continue to have access to expert pediatric health care, in the middle of a crisis, and all year long.

In the months before the COVID-19 crisis, Children's National averaged 80 telemedicine visits per month. In March 2020, our team conducted more than 2,780 telemedicine visits! These virtual appointments are helping immunocompromised children stay safe, while also reducing exposure risk to our dedicated health care teams. YOU are making it possible for us to train patients and providers to adapt to these virtual tools.

Your continued generosity helps us stay focused and deliver the best possible care in uncertain times. Thank you. You're helping patients like Rueben grow up stronger.
