Come for a fun-filled morning to celebrate what Lexi Speight loved the most in her life: her family, her friends, Care Bears, the color purple and most especially, laughing! A 5K cross-country run and 1-mile cross-country walk at the 8th Annual Laps for Lexi.
Each year on the last Saturday of September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, members of the community come together under the banner of Laps for Lexi to stand with families facing childhood cancer today, remember the young lives like 8-year old Lexi Speight who were taken too soon, and rededicate themselves to combating this terrible illness.Laps for Lexi is a vibrant celebration - fun for the entire family. On Saturday, September 30th the beautiful campus of Sandy Spring Friends School will be adorned with many of Lexi's favorite things - gorgeous purple balloons, baskets overflowing with homemade cookies, the option to have your nails polished by Nail Girlz, chicken sandwiches from Chick Fil A, a moonbounce, a bounty of delicious breads and baked goods available from Upper Crust Bakery, and hundreds of people running or walking along 5K or 1-mile trails on campus. Without a doubt the spirits of attendees are nourished by the grace, good will and positivity of the event all while raising money for an important cause and in honor of a special girl!Funds raised will support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's National Medical Center as well as the Lexi Speight Scholarship fund at Sandy Spring Friends School. There will also be a collection of crayons and markers for the 4th Floor (Oncology Unit) Art Room—a haven for patients and their siblings/friends.
