• Why donate to a pediatric hospital?

  Your donation to our non-profit institution makes it possible for us to provide exceptional, compassionate care for children. This vital support enables kids to be healthy and fulfill their potential.

  Generous philanthropy also advances our work to find new treatments and cures.

  Medical developments for children continue to lag significantly behind advancements for adults. We’re closing this gap, through research and innovation, and the development of devices and therapies specific to kids’ growing bodies. Your gift provides hope, healing and brighter futures.

• What does my donation support?

  Children's National Hospital uses donations to continually improve our world-class care for the whole child — mind, body and spirit. Donations support unreimbursed care for families in our community who cannot afford to pay for it.

  Your gift funds research, specialized medical equipment and facilities. It allows us to expand innovative programs, such as Child Life, art, music and pet therapy, our mobile health program and other services that enable children to receive the best care possible.

• May I give a general gift or must I designate it to a specific area?

  We welcome every gift. Donations that are not designated (unrestricted gifts) are critical to fulfilling our hospital’s mission. Gifts to our Fund for Every Child give us the flexibility to pursue new opportunities to improve care and meet our patients’ most urgent needs. These gifts also support uncompensated care, which is vital for families who lack adequate insurance and face a variety of challenges that influence their health and well-being.

• What’s the difference between the hospital and foundation?

  Children’s National Hospital Foundation is the fundraising arm of the hospital. We connect donors who are passionate about improving children’s health with opportunities to give and make a difference.

• What is the focus of the campaign?

  follow the leader is Children’s National’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign in a decade and our most ambitious.

  We’re proud to rank among the nation’s top top-5 children’s hospitals in multiple specialties and #1 for newborn care six years in a row. We seek $500 million to fund five bold initiatives where our leadership is strong. Strategic investments today will improve lives for generations.

• How can I support follow the leader?

  We need your support because leaders never succeed alone. Join us in leading the way for kids to have healthy lifetimes and follow their dreams.

  You can make a generous gift to our campaign as an individual or family, or through a business or a foundation. Give through your will, from an IRA or DAF, with a gift of stock, or with cash, check or card.

• Where can I donate now?

  Give online using a credit card or PayPal.

  Mail a check payable to Children’s Hospital Foundation to:

• Is it safe to give online?

  Yes. We protect donor privacy with the highest level of security for credit card transactions. Find details on our Privacy Policy & Security page.

• Is my donation tax deductible?

  Yes. Children’s National Hospital is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

• Will I receive a receipt?

  Yes. Tax receipts are mailed 2-3 business days after your gift is received and deposited.

• Whom do I contact if I don’t receive my receipt?

  For tax receipts that may have been misplaced or lost in the mail, please contact Shelby Tudor at studor@childrensnational.org.

• How do I make a wire transfer?

  Please reference our Wire Transfer Instructions for the necessary addresses, routing numbers and other details.

   

• May I donate stock or securities?

  Yes. Donating securities helps kids and families at Children’s National and provides you with tax benefits. When you give appreciated stocks, you may receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full market value and avoid capital gains tax.

• How do I make charitable donation from IRA?

  If you’re 70.5 or older, you may make a tax-free transfer of a charitable gift from your IRA directly to Children’s National. Simply make the request to your IRA administrator.

• How do I give through my Donor Advised Fund (DAF)?

  Create a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) and name Children’s National as a recipient. You  receive an immediate tax deduction when you contribute to your DAF. Then, grants can are made to Children’s National over time, providing critical funds to help kids be kids while they’re in the hospital.

• How do I include Children’s National Hospital in my will?

  You have many options for leaving a gift for Children’s National Hospital in your will, trust or estate plans. We have resources to help you decide how you can provide for your loved ones and the future of pediatric care at our hospital.

• How do I donate in honor or memory of someone?

  Give today and select the option that says “This gift is in honor or memory of someone.” You may also start a fundraiser in honor of a loved one and invite others to join you to pay tribute by supporting pediatric care in our community.

• How do I donate to someone raising money for Children's National?

  Visit our Start a Fundraiser page and use the search bar to find their fundraiser. From there, make a gift to support their fundraiser and exceptional care at Children’s National. We also have generous supporters raising money through our annual Race for Every Child and on Facebook.
