Give Hospitalized Kids and Their Caregivers a #ReasonToBelieve

Children's National Hospital's Dr. Billie Short works in the NICU every Christmas

This week, nearly 300 children will spend Christmas at Children’s National Hospital while they courageously battle illness and injury.

Our health care heroes will be there, too.

Billie Short, MD, chief of neonatology, will be working on Christmas day ― just like she’s done the past 15 years.

“I work on Christmas day every year for two reasons,” she explains. “First, I do it so my staff with young children can spend Christmas with their kids. Supporting one another ― especially during this time of the year – is important to our team. The second reason is that I love discharging babies from our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) during the holidays. It’s so fun to see the families’ smiles, and I love being there to reassure and help them as they graduate from the support of our NICU. It’s very rewarding.”

Will you join Dr. Short in supporting our patient families and health care heroes?

Many children, their families and caregivers will spend Christmas at Children’s National. Let’s give them a #ReasonToBelieve this holiday season.
