Special Halloween Race for Every Child Raises $1.2 Million

Pennsylvania Avenue was filled with superheroes, princesses, animals, and others who ran and walked in the third annual Race for Every Child on a chilly and sunny Halloween morning. After being rescheduled from Oct. 3 because of weather conditions, the 5K run/walk and 100-yard Kids' Dash turned into a costume parade, as families dressed for the special day. Through sponsorships, registration fees, and individual fundraising, the event has raised $1,282,659 so far, more than any previous year. See a summary of social media highlights and photos.

The top fundraising teams were Pippa's Princesses (led by race chairs Casey and Nick Seidenberg), the Brain Tumor Trouncers, KAT6A Kids, the Grateful Family Team, and the Children's Health Board. Top individual fundraisers were Teagan Annis (of the Brain Tumor Trouncers), Rachel Mollica (Brain Tumor Trouncers), Erin Rosenkranz (Team Sammy), Campbell Smith (Grateful Family Team), and Steve Weissman (KAT6A Kids).

In the always-competitive 5K, Scott Anderson of Washington took first place, with a time of 17:29.2. He was followed by Kevin Mahoney of Washington, Ryan Sutley of Washington, Moti Heda of Silver Spring, and Beth Conlon of Montgomery Village (who was also the first female finisher), and Chris Lombardi of Silver Spring. Top female finishers were Conlon with a time of 18:25.8), Meghan Dinardi of Boyds, Katie Endres of Arlington, Lisa Johnson of Kensington, and Betsy Goodall of Washington. Donations are being accepted through December, so it's not too late to make an additional donation or support a friend who participated. In addition, commemorative Race for Every Child merchandise is still available at our online store.
