Leapfrog Group Names Children's National a "Top Hospital"

Children’s National Health System has been designated a Leapfrog Group 2015 Top Hospital, one of only 12 children’s hospitals in the United States to be named to this prestigious list. Top Hospitals exhibit lower infection rates, higher survival rates for high-risk procedures, decreased length of stay, and fewer readmissions.

“Being part of the 2015 Leapfrog Group Top Hospital List is recognition of the incredible dedication of everyone on the Children’s National team to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” said Dr. Kurt Newman, president and CEO. “I’m proud that our commitment to placing the child at the center of all we do has resulted in this important and meaningful distinction.”

The Top Hospital List selection is based on the results of the Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on critical areas of hospital care, including patient outcomes, resource use, and management structures established to prevent errors.

“Leapfrog’s Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions any hospital can achieve in the United States,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group. “Top Hospitals have lower infection rates, better outcomes, decreased length of stay and fewer readmissions. By achieving Top Hospital status, Children’s National has proven it prioritizes the safety of its patients, is committed to transparency and provides exemplary care for families and patients in Washington, DC. I congratulate the board, staff, and clinicians of Children’s National whose efforts achieved these results.”
