Heroes Gala Raises 638000 for Children with Cancer

The Heroes Curing Childhood Cancer Gala on Feb. 22 raised $638,000 to support psychosocial services for children with cancer. Held at the Four Seasons, the event attracted nearly 400 guests and featured a live auction. Rylie Richards, an 8-year-old who has personally benefited from the medical care and support services at Children’s National, was a special guest. Watch her story. The Heroes Gala is in its sixth year and has raised nearly $2 million to support care and research for children with cancer. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the  supportive care team in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which provides social workers, child life specialists, psychologists, and educational, music and art therapists to help children heal -- all funded through philanthropy.

We are grateful to the Heroes Gala co-chairs, Elizabeth Kaufman Blalack, PhD, and Lee Blalack, and Susan and Floyd E.
