$1 Million Gift Funds Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine

Thanks to a gift of $1 million from Lissa Muscatine and Bradley Graham, Children's National has named Indranil Kushare, MD, the first recipient of the Graham/Muscatine Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Children's National executives, clinicians, and volunteers gathered on August 29 to congratulate Dr. Kushare and to honor Lissa and Bradley. All three of the couple's children have been active in sports and have benefited from the support of the Division of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at Children's National. Dr. Kushare's research will focus on three key areas—the use of the Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) machine as a lower radiation alternative to standard x-rays; the impact of recurring trauma on healed fractures; and innovative surgical approaches for spinal surgery.
