Having Surgery at Children’s

Children's understands that when a child needs surgery, it is a stressful time for families. Children's has many resources to help families prepare for the experience.

Children's encourages families to visit the hospital for a pre-surgical tour so children can familiarize themselves with the process. Tours take place every Sunday at 2 pm starting in the hospital’s Main Atrium. The tour takes approximately 1 1/2 hours. Pre-registration is necessary to attend the tour and can be completed here. Children's also offers a short version online-surgical tour in language that is easy for kids to understand.

Our child life specialists can offer tips for preparing children for surgery. For more information, we have a comprehensive section on Having Surgery at Children's
