The skilled specialists at Children’s National perform hundreds of procedures every year, making our team one of the most experienced in the nation.

Neurosurgery at Children’s National: Why Choose Us

At Children’s National, we combine the compassion and personal attention of a private practice with the resources and research of an academic medical institution. Our philosophy of care is simple: Your children are our children, and we will not rest until we have done everything possible to ensure their health and well-being. As part of our commitment to your child’s care, our neurosurgeons routinely see patients every single day, including weekends. Our care doesn’t end when the surgery is over. We follow up with your child for years, evaluating his or her progress and discussing the results with you in-depth.

Features of our neurosurgery services include:

  • Minimally invasive treatments. At Children’s National, we consider minimally invasive procedures the standard of care. We routinely take steps at every stage of your child’s treatment to use a minimally invasive approach, resulting in the smallest incision and the fewest complications. Learn more about minimally invasive neurosurgery.
  • Full spectrum of treatment options. When we recommend a treatment option for your child, we are making this decision based on our extensive knowledge and experience. Our neurosurgeons have years of experience with a full range of neurological treatments and are comfortable with every procedure and approach. This comprehensive background in neurosurgery means that we have the expertise to make the decision that is best for your child.
  • Complex procedures. Patients travel to us from all over the world because we have the resources and training to perform even the most delicate and complicated procedures. Our advanced technology includes intraoperative MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and Visualse, an MRI-guided laser ablation technique for minimally invasive treatment of complex brain tumors. We also are one of the few centers to use deep brain stimulation for movement disorders in children.
  • Comprehensive services. We are an internationally renowned center for complete neurological care, no matter what your child needs. We also offer an intensive care unit (ICU) with a dedicated neurological ICU team. Learn more about critical care at Children’s National.
  • Collaboration. We believe strongly in harnessing the power and skills of our team to work together for the benefit of our patients. Our neurology team meets regularly to discuss each patient. In addition, we collaborate extensively with other departments to provide the full spectrum of care. We frequently work with orthopaedics, reconstructive surgery, and otolaryngology (ENT) to offer the most comprehensive treatment plan possible.
  • Constant improvement. We are never satisfied. Every day, we think about how we can improve our outcomes. We continuously work on making our treatments safer and more effective, so we can give your child what we would want for our own children: nothing but the best possible results.
