Children’s National Hospital established the Burgess Clinic in 1989 to promote a supportive environment and meet the unique medical needs of adolescents infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS — a place where we can offer young patients both help and hope.
In the Washington, D.C., area the number of children and families living with HIV and AIDS remains high, with case rates for children and adolescents well above the national average. Thousands of these patients receive comprehensive care through related programs and clinics at Children’s National.

Our Division of Infectious Diseases is the major referral center for infectious diseases in the Washington, D.C., area, helping thousands of patients each year, and actively promoting prevention through community outreach and education.
