About the Provider
Michael Lotke, MD, is the Assistant Director of Global Services at Children's National Hospital. He completed undergraduate training at Oberlin College in 1985 with a Bachlor of Arts in cultural anthropology, focusing most of his attention on the deaf community. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1990, and completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 1993. After completing his residency, Dr. Lotke performed two years of research training through the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at Stanford University. During training and his early career, he had opportunities to practice medicine for several months in Pakistan, Bhutan and Vietnam.
He worked at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago from 1997 to 2012. Among other job responsibilities, he was the director of the Pediatric Residency Program for over 10 years. He also worked closely with Interpreter Services to improve language services provided to patients at the hospital. Additionally, he was part of the team creating a comprehensive program for inpatient and outpatient care for deaf patients and their families, which was offered nationally to sign language interpreters.
In 2012, Dr. Lotke moved to Washington, D.C., to work at Children’s National, where he is part of an expanding inpatient consultation service caring for children with complex medical needs. His work in this area led him to form a close relationship with Global Services, as many international patients have complex medical needs. Dr. Lotke is now a member of the Global Services leadership team.
