What is Therapeutic Music?
Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship. It is art based on the science of sound, its live acoustics are specifically tailored to the patient’s immediate need used to facilitate the healing process. This intervention is patient, family, and care-team centered and focused on what is best for the patient right now.
Bedside Harp Therapy
Harp played at the bedside offers the patient a soothing, interesting, and comforting experience with sound and vibrational music. It helps alleviate suffering in many ways. Families express the feeling of being cared for in a special way when live harp music is heard and experienced. The creation of a healing environment helps to promote relaxation and tranquility.
Ambient Therapeutic Music
Welcome Desk ambient music at the entrance of the hospital promotes a more relaxed feeling and shifts one’s attention away from anxiety while waiting for services. Ambient therapeutic music is designed to calm and allow for mindful thinking while one processes information. Relaxation CDs are available during your hospital stay and portable headsets are available during your visit.
What we do
When patients are hospitalized, particularly pediatric patients, they tend to operate in a state of hyper arousal, or anxiety. This state of anxiety is detrimental to the recovery and healing process, and can continue after hospitalization. Music therapy helps our patients recognize this state so that we can then provide them with interventions to encourage relaxation and stress relief.
