Wanna Read? Literacy Initiative Brings Power of Healing to Patients at Children's National

Wanna Read?, a non-profit organization based in the United Arab Emirates, donated dozens of English and Arabic books to Children’s National. To honor the special occasion, the hospital hosted a storybook reading for children at Seacrest Studios on September 22, 2017.

Larisa Miller, director of Circle of Hope UAE (which provides oversight for the literacy program) and Adel Mohammed Yousif, a member of the Board of Trustees, answered questions from patients and read the latest children’s book by Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.

Wanna Read? was founded by Her Highness Sheikha Shamma to encourage healing through reading activities for patients in children's hospitals.

After the reading, officials toured the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation and visited patients in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
