Urology Fellowship

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the A. Barry Belman Pediatric Urology and Joseph Robert Surgical Innovation Fellowships.  The only documents that we expect in order to consider your application complete include:
  • Universal Application Form downloaded from the Society for Pediatric Urology Website ( http://spuonline.org/Universal-Pediatric-Urology-Fellowship-Application.cgi)
  • Photograph
  • Letters of Recommendation (mailed or emailed as PDFs to hpohl@cnmc.org)
    1. LOR #1
    2. LOR #2
    3. LOR #3

Regardless of whether we have received all of these at this point, you can feel free to begin the process of arranging for interviews so long as the additional materials are received at least two weeks before the date of your interview date.

Schedule:

We do not hold specific interview days during which all applicants shuttle through “round-robin” interviews.  Instead, we prefer that the applicants see how our department functions during a regular day.  We have selected Tuesdays as the most appropriate day during the week to conduct interviews.  On Tuesdays, you are likely to observe one of us in the OR, one of us in the clinic, and all of us in our weekly radiology conference where challenging cases are presented for discussion by the entire faculty.  While you are certainly welcome to spend more time with us, we thoroughly understand the time and financial constraints of the applicants and you will not be penalized at all for spending one day here only.  Therefore, most applicants decide to arrive to Washington DC on a Monday and leave on a Wednesday.  Along those lines, second looks visits are welcome but in no manner expected!

Hotel Arrangements:

We have arranged for a reduced rate at One Washington Circle Hotel.  The link to their website is http://www.thecirclehotel.com/.
1 Washington Circle Northwest
Washington, DC 20037
(800) 424-9671
When you call to make your reservation, please say that you are interviewing with “the department of Pediatrics at George Washington University”.

Transportation:

The hotel is conveniently located close to the Foggy Bottom Metro stop (Orange Line) with direct access to Reagan National Airport.  A link to the DC Metro system can be found at http://www.dcmetromap.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/dc-metro-map2.jpg.

Should you decide to arrive to Dulles Airport or BWI, you will need to take a taxi to the hotel.  Depending on the day’s schedule, I will most likely be able to pick you up in the morning on my way into Children’s National and you will find out about that when you call to schedule the interviews with our administrative assistant Sylvia Thompson.  Sylvia will not only arrange for the interview times but will also check my clinical schedule to see whether I will be available to pick you up.  If not, then you will need to take a taxi to Children’s National (the address is below my electronic signature).
