Biography

Aaron Rakow, PhD, is the Director of the Child and Adolescent Anxiety Program (CAAP) and the Director of Psychological Services for the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Via his role with CAAP, Dr. Rakow provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment services to families of anxious children and adolescents. In his role with the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Dr. Rakow provides outpatient treatment and inpatient consultation to children and adolescents impacted by the psychological strain of gastrointestinal disease. Dr. Rakow’s philosophy to clinical care emphasizes goal-oriented, cognitive-behavioral strategies with demonstrated efficacy. Dr. Rakow’s research is focused on understanding and treating the factors that contribute to childhood mental illness from a developmental psychopathology perspective. Broadly, he values the role of environment in contributing to the etiology of child psychopathology and recognizes that children who are affected by mental and/or physical health problems require particularly competent parenting and family functioning.
