Children's National's Hepatology Program provides specialized diagnostic, evaluation, and treatmentservices for children with a variety of liver diseases. The program is coordinated through the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, andNutrition.

We emphasize a personal approach to care, and the program's pediatric gastroenterologists workclosely with related specialists from the divisions of Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Pathology to create an individual care plan for every patient.

Conditions treated in the Hepatology Program include:

  • Autoimmunehepatitis
  • Autoimmunehepatitis
  • Biliaryatresia
  • Drug-related hepatitis
  • Infectious hepatitis (includinghepatitis B and C)
  • Metabolic hepatitis (such as Wilson's Disease)
  • Neonatal hepatitis
  • Steatohepatitis (fatty liver)
  • TPN-related hepatitis

Our advanced services include radiologic studies, including sonograms, Magnetic ResonantCholangiograms (MRCP) and liver biopsies if necessary.

Additionally, our Hepatology Program routinely follows patients who are listed forliver transplantation and have already received transplantation.
