Resources for Families
At Children’s National, we understand that families have many questions about their child’s heart condition and care. Your care providers may offer specific resources, but we also have online resources available to answer your questions and connect you with the information you need.
Our Child Life Specialists are specially trained and certified to help children, adolescents, and families understand and cope with illness, treatment, and hospitalization.
Creative and Therapeutic Arts Services helps children transcend the hospital experience by bringing the cultural arts, arts education, and animal visitation to patients at bedside and in the Costco Wholesale Atrium.
Our Parent Navigator Program informs, educates, supports, and empowers families to be strong partners with providers in advocating for their child’s medical, educational, and social well-being.
Board-certified chaplains provide important spiritual and mental health services to all families and patients in the hospital. Children's National also has two chapels for patients, families, and staff seeking a quiet space for prayer or meditation.
Our Patient/Family Advisory Council, made up of families whose children have been treated at Children’s National, partners with us in defining our approach to care. This council is involved in ongoing projects and helps us improve services to all patients and families.
Our social workers are specially trained and licensed professionals who provide an array of psychosocial services to enhance the quality of care our patients and families receive, both within Children's National and in the community. Learn more about social work services in the Heart Institute
Children’s National offers various support groups for families to exchange helpful information, provide solace to one another, and offer tips to help in caring for their children.
