Health Insurance PPO and HMO Options

Children's National Health System provides employees an opportunity to participate in one of two types of health insurance plans: a PPO- Preferred Provider Option; or, an HMO- Health Maintenance Organization. Employees share a portion of the premium costs, and premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis from an employee's pay. Coverage types are offered for employees and employees plus their families. Coverage is available the first of the month after the date of hire.

Plan Choices

  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): Participants in the Plan can choose to go to either the preferred providers or they may choose to go to any provider they choose outside the network.
  • High Deductible Plan with Health Savings Account (HSA): Uses a network of providers, just like the PPO plan, but the way to you pay for your care and prescription drugs is different.
  • Health Maintenance Organizations: Currently a couple HMO's are offered in addition to the Children's Health Plan as an option for health insurance coverage to Children’s staff and their families. The HMOs all contain dental coverage, vision coverage and prescription drug coverage.

Dental Insurance

Children's provides employees an opportunity to participate in a dental plan: the Children's Dental Plan (an indemnity dental plan). Employees share a portion of the premium costs, and premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis from an employee's pay. Coverage types are offered for employees and employees plus their families. Coverage is available the first of the month following date of hire.

Vision Insurance

Children's offers staff the opportunity to elect to participate in the Vision Services Plan. The Plan provides comprehensive and quality eye care at a minimal out-of-pocket expense. This is a PPO (preferred provider) type program. Employees pay the premium, and premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis from an employee's pay. Coverage types are offered for employees and employees plus their families. Coverage is available the first of the month following date of hire.

Group Term Life Insurance

Group term life insurance coverage to include accidental death and dismemberment coverage is provided to eligible staff at no cost to employees. The amount of coverage is a multiple of base salary depending on your staff position.

Supplemental Life

Children's offers you the option of purchasing supplemental life insurance through payroll deduction. The supplemental life insurance program is available to provide additional financial protection in the event of the death of the staff member or of a covered dependent.

Long and Short Term Disability Insurance

A long-term disability plan is established to insure income protection of staff who become totally disabled for 90 days or more as a result of accident or illness, once accrued sick leave has been exhausted. The plan pays a percentage of the employee's regular monthly base salary according to staff position. The coverage is provided at no cost to eligible employees.

Children's offers you the option of purchasing short term disability insurance coverage through payroll deduction. The Plan is offered to help insure income protection of staff who become totally disabled for a period of 14 days to 89 days as a result of accident or illness. The plan pays a percentage of the employee’s regular monthly base salary as elected.
