Maria Acosta, MD, is a child neurologist with a very special interest and experience level in developmental disabilities. She has been working for more than 20 years with children and families with neurological conditions like ADHD, autism, developmental delay, and learning disabilities. She is the Clinical Director of the Neurofibromatosis Institute at Children's National Health System and Director of the neuro-cognitive program at the Neurofibromatosis Institute.
Dr. Acosta has participated in several national and international projects in the genetic aspects of ADHD. Her clinical work has been fundamental in the identification of genetic markers associated with ADHD. She is currently involved in several research projects in Neurofibromatosis type 1, learning disabilities, ADHD, and associated co-morbidities. Her main research interest is to find biological markers for learning disabilities and potential biological targeted interventions.
