Regular visits with Children's National pediatric dentists help protect your child's healthy smile. The Division of Pediatric Dentistry is a comprehensive oral health program specifically designed for young patients, from check-ups to complex dental procedures, with a team that knows how to make a visit with the dentist less painful and more comfortable.

The division accepts new patients that are 8 years old or younger, patients with special needs that are 14 years old or younger, and new patients older than 14 year old after a consultation with a dentist.

The Importance of a Pediatric Dentist

A dental exam can reveal other conditions, and a pediatric dentist is trained to recognize these signs and symptoms in a growing child. In addition to preventive services like regular dental exams and cleanings, a hospital-based pediatric dentist has the expertise to treat problems associated with inherited disorders, and underlying medical or developmental conditions.

Our dentists are uniquely qualified to care for children who are medically compromised, children with special needs, children with physical or mental difficulties, maxillofacial anomalies, and children with a traumatic injury to the face or jaw. Our pediatric dentists are also well trained in treating children with dental anxiety.

Our advanced preventive and emergency dental care services for infants, children, and adolescents, include:

  • Conscious sedation dentistry
  • Dental care for medically compromised and developmentally challenged children
  • Dental emergencies
  • Dental treatment under general anesthesia
  • Early Childhood Caries
  • Infant oral health
  • Oral Surgery
  • Orthodontics and braces
  • Sealants
  • Tooth decay (cavities)
  • Toothache (pulpitis)
  • Wisdom teeth extraction
