What We Do

At Children’s National Health System, our employees stand for children. We are champions of children’s health, advocates of their cause, and protectors of their future.

Our world-class team of pediatric clinicians, research scientists, nurses, and staff come to work with one goal in mind: to make children’s lives healthier and happier. Our employees deliver the highest quality care in ways that put every child at the center.

We treat children and families with respect and compassion, and create an experience designed with children’s unique physical and emotional needs in mind. We have remained focused on the health of children since our founding in 1870. Since then, Children’s National has developed a national and international reputation for pioneering new therapies and treatments across a wide array of medical specialties.

Comprehensive Care

With 313 beds at our main hospital, eight outpatient specialty care centers, and many primary care practices, we have locations in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. We are the premier provider of pediatric services throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.

We take a team approach to caring for children in their communities. We ensure that our patients’ care is integrated among all team members through a wide range of facilities and specialists - from primary care pediatricians to pediatric subspecialists.

Focus on Research

We conduct promising research with a focused goal of anticipating diseases to improve the overall health of children, enabling them to grow up and lead healthy lives. And our location in the nation’s capital affords us a unique position to serve as an advocate for children, which we do on both the national and local levels as ambassadors for children.

Our vision is to lead the nation in advancing the health and well-being of all children. We’re a premier pediatric academic health system with leadership in advocacy, research, education, and clinical care. And we set the standard in delivering the highest quality care in ways that ensures every child has the best chance for a bright future.
