The Most Advanced Care
The redesigned Children's National neurosurgical operating suite at Children’s National Medical Center opened in 2011. Designed with the family in mind, the state-of-the-art facility offers patients and their families a dedicated neuroscience care unit with all private suites, neuro-pediatric intensive care rooms, and a neuro-newborn intensive unit.

During your child’s procedure, our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques when possible to minimize blood loss, pain, and scarring, and reduce recovery times. Technologies include the Gamma Knife®, which allows for exceptional precision during surgery and an Intraoperative MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) that enables surgeons to view in real time the location of a tumor or other lesion. This intraoperative MRI in combination with an integrated neurosurgical microscope and stereotactic guidance system make this suite one of the most technically sophisticated operating rooms for children in the world. The state-of-the art neurosurgical operating room also includes intraoperative imaging modalities, including coordinated endoscopic, ultrasound, CT and a 1.5T magnet to provide the optimum environment for minimally invasive neurosurgery.
