Seeking Care

The Global Services team specializes in ensuring families traveling from overseas are able to access the world class care at Children's National as easily as possible. Your Global Services representative will guide you through the process of seeking care at our Sheikh Zayed Campus for Advanced Children's Medicine in Washington, DC.

Visas

All visitors who are not eligible for the Visa Waiver Program and who seek medical attention in the U.S. must apply for a visa. When you are ready to begin the process, please contact us and let us know if you are a sponsored patient or will pay for care on your own. 

International patients who will have a government entity or employer pay for care (Sponsored)

  • Contact Children’s Global Services to be connected with our medical team for evaluation. You must provide your child’s medical records.
  • Global Services will submit your request and work with our doctors to review your child’s records and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Children’s National will furnish a formal letter from the doctor outlining treatment recommendations and work with you to schedule an appointment.
  • If needed, you may present this letter to your country’s health authority to obtain the approval and paperwork for travel abroad. 
  • Children’s will need to receive notification of your approval from your local health authority in order to help you start the visa process.

International patients who will pay for their own child's care (Self Pay)

  • Contact Children’s Global Services to be connected with a specialist for evaluation. You must provide your child’s medical records.
  • Global Services will submit your request and work with our doctors to review your child’s records and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.
  • We will provide you with a cost estimate via email based on the treatment plan.
  • If you decide to pursue treatment at Children’s National, 100 percent of the cost estimate is due prior to securing an appointment.
  • We will provide you with a formal letter verifying your appointment once it is scheduled, which you may use to begin the visa process.
