Our highly skilled team not only achieved the highest number of transplants in 2011, but alsoreceived the Silver Level performance from the Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice in2012. This award recognizes outstanding performances in post-transplant survival rates, transplantrates and mortality rates after being placed on the waitlist. The division's pediatric nephrologistsand specialists perform the initial diagnostic procedures and treatments, arrange and coordinatetransplant services, and help families understand all aspects of follow-up care.
We also provide an essential supportive role for families when longer-term care management isnecessary, including training for home dialysis. The division has a dedicated post-transplantpediatrician, and around the clock physician coverage for children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)- critical care in a child and family-focused environment.
Children's National has the only stand-alone, pediatric dialysis facility in the region with adedicated dialysis program exclusively for children. One of several designated therapy programsoffered through the division, the environment enables our nurses and physicians to provide care in asetting specifically designed for children.
