Children’s National Opens Satellite Emergency Department
In the fall of 2010, Children’s National opened a new emergency department at United Medical Center on Southern Avenue, SE. This state-of-the-art, full-service emergency department includes 14 emergency bays and is 10,800 square feet, giving ample space to serve patients and families with a full range of emergency needs. The satellite emergency department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The facility is staffed by doctors, nurses, and clinical care team members from Children’s National. These experts treat the same kinds of emergencies that are treated at the Children’s National emergency department on Michigan Avenue, NW.
The Children’s emergency department at the Michigan Avenue, NW, location currently has 8,000–10,000 visits per year from patients that live in neighborhoods around United Medical Center. Now, children living in these communities can receive the same quality care from Children’s doctors, nurses, and care team members closer to home.
Children’s National has a community health educator on site to help patients and families learn about preventive and primary care, and will help families find a primary care doctor if they need one.
