Dental care in Prince George's County
Mobile health vans target services where they are most needed

On March 28, Children’s National Medical Center began offering preventative oral care services at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Temple Hills, Maryland. A specially equipped mobile health van staffed by a dental health team consisting of a licensed dentist and dental hygienist will be at the school weekly from 10am – 4pm. Basic treatment services including cleanings, sealants, and fluoride varnish are now available. Benjamin Stoddert is one of three schools in the county that will host the mobile health van for medical and dental services.

The opening of this mobile health facility is the fulfillment of an agreement, originally signed in November, 2011 by officials from Prince George’s County and Children’s National designed to increase access to pediatric primary care and dental services for children and families there.

“We are thrilled to be widening the health care safety net for children in Prince George’s County,” commented Kurt D. Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National Medical Center. “One of our goals is to make creative connections for the kids we care for, and bringing the mobile health van to schools is a great way to facilitate preventative health care that keeps kids healthy,” he continued.

Plans for continued expansion of mobile health sites and services in the county are expected to be implemented in coming months.
