Research Interests
Jay Salpekar, MD, is associate professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine and director of Outpatient Psychiatry Services at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Salpekar received BA and MD degrees at Washington University in St. Louis. He did internship and residency training in general psychiatry at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, and continued on to a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Yale University Child Study Center from 1996-1998. He has been on the full-time faculty at Children’s National Medical Center and George Washington University School of Medicine since 1998. Dr. Salpekar is the director of the Neurobehavior Program at Children's Hospital, and serves as the psychiatry consultant for the Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Program and Movement Disorders Program at Children's Hospital. He has served as a journal reviewer and has frequently lectured and presented on issues of ADHD and neuropsychiatry in primary care, neurology, and psychiatry settings. Current research projects include focus upon pediatric bipolar disorder, psychiatric issues associated with pediatric epilepsy, and ADHD. He has over 30 publications including abstracts, scientific papers, book chapters, and editorials.
