Research Interests
An N. Massaro’s research broadly centers on neonatal neurology and neuroprotection. More specifically, she investigates neuroimaging and physiological biomarkers of brain injury in newborns, and the assessment and treatment of perinatal brain injury in high-risk newborns.

Dr. Massaro has conducted several prospective clinical research studies and has experience with recruitment in the intensive care unit setting and retention of subjects for longitudinal studies. As principal investigator on an NIH-funded study she effectively established recruitment and consent procedures in Children’s outborn NICU that included involvement from the neonatal transport team, bedside nursing staff in timely specimen collection, clinical protocols for EEG/aEEG monitoring and MRI acquisition, and a close relationship with Children’s developmental follow-up program.
