Research Interests
Cynthia A Gingalewski, MD, is an assistant professor of surgery and pediatrics at the George Washington University and attending surgeon at Children’s National Medical Center. Dr. Gingalewski earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in neurosciences and her medical degree, cum laude , in 1990 from the State University of New York at Syracuse. She completed her general surgery training at Yale New Haven Hospital and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. After completing her pediatric surgery training at the JW Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, IN, she became an assistant professor of surgery at The University of Connecticut. She most recently was at The University of Massachusetts prior to moving to Washington. Dr. Gingalewski has been working on the pathobiology of necrotizing enterocolitis, both at the level of inflammation and intestinal repair. She has received a faculty research fellowship from the American College of Surgeons and an Avery Scholarship from Children’s National Medical Center. She has authored over 15 papers, 25 abstracts, and five book chapters.
