Research Interests
Max J. Coppes, MD, PhD, MBA, joined Children’s National Medical Center in January 2006 as the Executive Director for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Before joining Children’s National, Dr. Coppes was the Director of the Children’s Cancer Program at Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Canada. He received his medical degree from the University of Leiden Medical School in the Netherlands in 1982; received his PhD from the University of Amsterdam Medical School in 1992; and received his MBA in 2004 from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. His research interests include the molecular genetics of pediatric tumors, and he specializes in Wilms tumors. Dr. Coppes has published over 130 manuscripts, and sits on numerous national and international committees. He has been on the editorial board of Hem/Onc Today since March 2000 and is an associate editor of Pediatric Blood and Cancer, the premier peer-reviewed journal for pediatric hematology/oncology.
