Research Interests
Naomi L.C. Luban, MD, received her medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY. Dr. Luban is chief of the Division of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and director of Transfusion Medicine/Donor Center. She is also vice chairman for Academic Affairs and associate program director of the Pediatric Clinical Research Center. She performs clinical research on transfusion transmitted blood diseases and complications of transfusion in neonates and children with chronic hemolytic disorders like sickle cell disease and autoimmune hemolytic anemia. She performs translational research on immune modulation caused by transfusion and the effect of gamma irradiation on blood and blood components. The focus of her work is to improve transfusion practices and contribute to the safety of this life saving but risk-prone procedure.
