Research Interests
Julia Cole Finkel, MD, is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Children’s National Medical Center and associate professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at George Washington University. She received her MD from the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, completed her residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Maryland, and her pediatric anesthesia fellowship training at Children’s after which she became the director of the pediatric pain management service and is currently the vice chief for Pain Medicine and Research for the Division of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. Dr. Finkel has extensive experience designing and conducting clinical trials relating to analgesics in children and has received substantial support from industry. She is currently the associate PI for the Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit. Her areas of interest include the modulation of opioid analgesia, tolerance and hyperalgesia; the development of methodologies to objectively measure pain, and analgesia and developmental pharmacology of analgesics. Dr. Finkel is regularly invited to speak at national meetings on topics related to pediatric pain management.
