The World’s Leading Cancer Experts Close to Home
The world's leading cancer experts close to home. Jackson Faircloth was diagnosed with Wilms tumor, the most common renal (kidney) tumor among children, but that was of little comfort to his parents, Cheri and William Faircloth. Luckily, his parents identified Children’s National Medical Center Oncologist Jeffrey S. Dome, MD, as the leading Wilms tumor expert in the nation.
Max Coppes, MD, executive director of Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, is also an expert on Wilms tumor, as is Nita Seibel, MD, principal investigator of the Children’s Oncology Group at Children’s National. Both Coppes and Seibel play a major role in designing and implementing treatment protocols for patients with renal tumors.
"The children who come to Children’s National are very fortunate," said Dr. Seibel. "They receive care from doctors who are determining treatment strategies for the whole country."
The Faircloths, who live in Fredericksburg, Virginia, were willing to go wherever they could so that Jackson could receive the best care possible. However, they worried it would be difficult to transport Jackson back and forth to and from the Children’s National for his cancer treatments. But Jackson was able to have his treatments at the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders of Northern Virginia in Fairfax.
Now, the same center that has treated countless cancer patients, including Jackson, is increasing its capacity to continue to provide children with world-class care close to home. Children’s National is excited to announce that the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders of Northern Virginia is relocating to a larger, renovated facility, twice the size of our current location.
