Children’s National Receives Federal Grant to Create Urban Pediatric Fellowship
December 23, 2011

For Immediate Release

Washington, DC – Children’s National Medical Center was recently awarded a 5-year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration to support a faculty development program. The Washington, DC, Primary Pediatric Urban Scholarship for Health (DC Primary PUSH) Program will support community-based and community-focused faculty development within the Diana L. and Stephen A. Goldberg Center for Community Pediatric Health and the development of an innovative general academic pediatrics fellowship program targeting the needs of underserved communities and patients. The grant is worth more than $960,000.

The program will be based in the Goldberg Center’s Division of General Pediatrics and Community Health, in collaboration with the Center for Clinical and Community Research, the Department of Medical Education at Children’s National, Howard University’s Department of Pediatrics, George Washington University and Johns Hopkins’ Department of General Pediatrics.

“At Children’s National we are educating tomorrow’s pediatric health leaders and this grant represents an opportunity to expand our services and continue advocating on behalf of children in the District,” said Denice Cora-Bramble, MD, MBA, Senior Vice President of the Goldberg Center and Acting Executive Vice President, Ambulatory Services. “The DC Primary PUSH also allows Children’s National to develop a fellowship that will train pediatricians to provide services in urban and underserved areas, and ultimately reach more children in need of care.”
