||Children’s Research Institute At Children’s National Medical Center Hosts 8th Annual Research Day
May 23, 2008
Washington, DC—Children’s Research Institute at Children’s National Medical Center held its 8th annual Research Day on Thursday, May 15, 2008. More than 188 projects in cutting-edge pediatric research were displayed by researchers, including graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, hospital faculty and staff. “This year’s event is by far the largest in the history of Children’s National Medical Center," said Mark Batshaw, MD, Chief Academic Officer at Children’s National and Director of Children’s Research Institute. "We are pleased that so many of our investigators chose to share their innovative work with their colleagues and the public today. It truly exemplifies the spirit of collaboration we emphasize here at Children’s, and displays the depth of our multi-disciplinary work.”
Posters were presented and adjudicated by expert judges across four main categories.
• Education, training, and program development
• Clinical research
• Community-based research
• Basic/translational research
“Each year, we strive to select a winner that represents the best and most creative in each category according to the research level of the investigator,” said Mendel Tuchman, MD, Scientific Director of Children’s Research Institute. “And every year, it’s difficult to narrow down a single winner for each because many of our investigators produce wonderful research, no matter the topic they study.”
Prizes were awarded in each category according to the rank of the researcher, including: faculty member, post-doctoral fellow, student/trainee, and staff member.
