September 15, 2012 is the new September 1

And this year October 1 is the new November 1.*
That is to say, this year, most applicants to residency programs will submit ERAS applications on or around September 15, 2012. And ACGME accredited residency programs to which you apply will then see your MSPE (aka "dean's letter") a couple of weeks later, on October 1, 2012 (and October 15 for osteopathic residency programs). Here's your timeline
Also note, this means that as the leaves are turning beautiful colors and you are carving pumpkins, many residency programs will have already begun the interview season. Indeed, interviews will probably start earlier this fall.
Make sure you are getting set with:
- your personal statement - can you avoid typos and express yourself in about 1 page?
- your letters of recommendation - did Dr. Seuss write your letter?
- your interviews - how will you present your best self and learn about the programs?
All of this is heading towards match week (with SOAP
) March 11-15, 2013 and a residency placement of your dreams. But please don't let 4th year otherwise pass you by. There is much to learn and live, experience and educate, reflect and grow.*And pediatrics is the new ______________?
