Nate Lesser joins Childrens National Hospital as Chief Information Security Officer
After a nationwide search, Children’s National Hospital is pleased to announce it has appointed Nate Lesser as the new chief information security officer (CISO). Lesser will lead the execution of the hospital’s comprehensive cybersecurity strategy and roadmap. Lesser has 20 years of experience in a wide array of technical and leadership roles addressing issues of cybersecurity, privacy and risk management.
“Nate is a strategic, creative and pragmatic leader that possesses the talent and skills to strengthen our cybersecurity program,” says Matt MacVey, vice president and chief information officer. “We’re honored to have him join the Children’s National team as our new CISO.”
Lesser previously served as managing director at Cypient, where he advised clients on enterprise cybersecurity capabilities, conducted standards-based assessments, and designed solutions to improve cyber posture. Prior to that he was deputy director of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where he ran the national lab dedicated to solving cybersecurity challenges, including medical device security.
“Health care information security is critically important in the tech-driven world we live in,” says Lesser. “I am thrilled to join the outstanding team at Children’s National, and continue to enhance our cybersecurity program at a time when the sophistication of attacks across all industries continues to increase.”
After earning his master’s and bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, Lesser served as a policy analyst and president management fellow for the Office of Management and Budget. He went on to spend several years leading a team of cybersecurity engineers providing support to several federal agencies including the Departments of Homeland Security, Defense, State, Health and Transportation with Booz Allen Hamilton’s cybersecurity practice. He has more than 20 publications and presentations that exhibit cybersecurity thought leadership.
