Twenty-eight rising Emirati diplomats, among the first graduating class of the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) in Abu Dhabi, visited Children’s National in July.  The EDA graduates toured the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex, and also spent time visiting with patients and families from the UAE.

The group was welcomed by hospital President and CEO, Dr. Kurt Newman, and Medical Director of Global Services, Dr. Gerard Martin, and updated on the hospital’s latest healthcare innovations and research collaborations in the UAE.

“Our partnership with the UAE reflects our mutual commitment to provide all children all around the world with quality pediatric healthcare. Hosting the Emirates Diplomatic Academy’s first graduating class provided a great opportunity for them to see how this shared vision is being translated to reality, thanks to the ongoing support of their government, and the UAE’s academic and healthcare sectors,”  said Dr. Newman.

The EDA offers a nine-month program providing a post-graduate diploma in UAE diplomacy and international relations. Prior to being placed at one of 105 missions around the world, the diplomats visited Children’s National and other UAE partner-organizations in the US to witness UAE diplomatic programs firsthand.
