Paramjit T. Joshi, MD, named President of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Washington, DC—The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) recently welcomed Paramjit Joshi, MD, as the organization’s newest president during AACAP’s 60th Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Joshi is the Chair of the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Director of the Psychiatry and Psychology programs at Children’s National Health System.  

“Being chosen as the head of AACAP, is both an honor and recognition of Dr. Joshi’s clinical expertise and valuable contributions to the field of children’s mental health,” said Roger J. Packer, MD, Senior Vice President of the Center for Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine at Children’s National. “As an elected leader in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Joshi will continue to push for increased access and quality mental healthcare for all our nation’s children.”

As incoming AACAP President, Dr. Joshi gave her inaugural address, “Partnering for the World’s Children,” on October 23, announcing her desire to enhance the organization’s commitment to better collaborate with international children’s mental health organizations and to promote a global perspective.

“Dr. Joshi has been a leading voice in the national dialogue on children’s mental health,” said Kurt D. Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National. “At Children’s National, we are committed to helping raise the awareness of mental health as a child health issue. I am tremendously proud of Dr. Joshi – she is a great leader of the Academy and a tireless advocate for all children.”

Dr. Joshi will serve a two-year term leading the organization, which is comprised of more than 8,500 child and adolescent psychiatrists and allied professionals. AACAP is dedicated to promoting the healthy development of children, adolescents, and families through research, training, prevention, comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, and to meet the professional needs of children and adolescent psychiatrists throughout their careers.
