Prince George's County, Children's National Medical Center, and Dimensions Health Announce Agreement to Provide Mobile Health Services

Seat Pleasant, Md.—In an effort to improve access to pediatric healthcare in underserved areas, Children’s National Medical Center, Prince George’s County, and Dimensions Healthcare System have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide mobile health services to the county. The MOU was signed today at Seat Pleasant Elementary School during a press conference with officials from Prince George’s County, Children’s National, and Dimensions.

The MOU calls for all parties to develop a detailed plan for rolling out a pediatric mobile health program in areas of the county that lack needed services. Children’s National Medical Center has a Mobile Health Program that currently sees children in the District of Columbia. There are three medical mobile units and one dental unit at Children’s National. This MOU calls for expanding these services to Prince George’s County.

“This partnership is about delivering much needed services to the children and families of Prince George’s County. It is great to work with exceptional healthcare providers like Children’s National Medical Center and Dimensions Healthcare. I am committed to improving the quality of healthcare in Prince George’s County and providing access to healthcare for our underserved communities. This MOU represents another step toward providing our residents with the kind of service they need and deserve,” said Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III.

Children’s National Medical Center’s Mobile Health Program currently treats children from birth through age 21 in wards 5, 6, 7, and 8 in the District of Columbia. The program has been in existence for nearly 20 years and serves approximately 4,000 children through 7,000 visits annually. Additionally, Children’s National operates four affiliated primary care pediatric practices and two specialty care centers in Prince George’s County.

“We have a longstanding history of caring for children in Prince George’s County through our primary care and specialty care centers. This agreement enables us to expand our Mobile Health Program to new areas, to help more children,” said Kurt D. Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National. “It reaffirms our commitment to doing what’s right for kids, particularly families in Prince George’s County.”

“We are excited to be joining forcing with Prince George's County and the Children’s National Medical Center. This partnership will allow Dimensions to expand our existing services at a higher level of care to the children in Prince George’s County and beyond,” added Dimensions Healthcare System CEO Kenneth E. Glover. “The collaboration of services will take patient care for children to another level. We believe that the new partnership will become the standard for quality improvement processes as we continue to make patient quality and safety our top priority for the children we serve. We will make a great healthcare team providing a wide range of top notch pediatric services.”

Mobile health services through Children’s National are expected to begin in 3-6 months, at which point the budget will be developed and finalized. The exact locations will be determined to meet the areas of greatest need, based on the county’s data.
