The Washington, DC metro area leads the nation with the highest HIV infection rate. Children and teens are part of that story.
Children’s National has had an HIV/AIDS program since the early 1980s, and treats the majority of HIV positive children and teens in the region. More than 25 years after we diagnosed our first patient, we can point to dramatic progress made in managing and living with HIV.
Our clinical and research teams have played an important role in advancing care and treatment for infected and affected children, teens, and adults in the Washington, DC metro area. Our researchers also consult around the world, addressing prevention and treatment issues for mothers, newborns, children, and teens.
We continuously strive to make living with the HIV virus more manageable through care, treatment, support services, and research. We also actively reach out into the community for effective education and prevention.
 The Burgess Clinic—
A medical clinic especially for teens infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
 Special Immunology—
For young children, especially those infected at birth, and teens who have grown up
with HIV.
